ADJUSTMENT TO PARENTING CLINIC
Dr Jane is a GP who “gets it”, and can take her support to the next level.
She is trained in “Focussed Psychological Strategies” and provides evidence-based therapies to help parents understand themselves and improve their wellbeing within their family.
As a mother herself and an experienced breastfeeder, she is very aware of our tendency to subjugate our own needs in favour of our children’s. This is not good for anyone in the family.
We are often led to believe that mothers “should” do it all, and that the nuclear family “should” be enough. Nothing could be further from the truth! On an evolutionary level, we are all social beings, and everyone needs a village. Children thrive with a variety of caregivers, and every family needs to reach out and find the best support for their needs.
Dr Jane will help and encourage your self-care and your ability to reach out for appropriate support. Her counselling will help you manage anxiety, irritation/anger and mood issues while helping you find and believe in your strengths.
She can, if you choose, help you explore aspects of your background, family of origin, and their relevance to your current symptoms.
As a GP, she can prescribe or monitor medication should you wish to pursue this route.
Dr Jane can do your Mental Health Care Plan, and her counselling is accredited with Medicare, so that you will receive 10 rebates per calendar year. She also has good contacts with a number of psychologists, should you prefer to be referred. She prides herself on being a team player and regularly checks in with other professionals caring for her patients.
